ABOUT SPINKS MEMORIAL CAMP
Spinks Memorial Camp is a non-profit recreation area stewarded by a group named Marcellus Citizens, Inc. The Camp consists of over 60 acres of woodlands and fields lie just south of the Village of Marcellus at the corner of Slate Hill Rd and Route 175. Accessible from Rt. 175, there is room for parking at the bottom of the hill and trails to follow up to the camp. for visits with groups with permission, the gate can be unlocked to allow vehicular traffic up to the top of the hill.
The group puts on fundraisers during the year to advertise the camp, and to raise money for improvements and to offset costs to keep up the camp grounds. the main event is during Marcellus Old Home Days held in early June in Marcellus Park.
The Marcellus Citizens, Inc. is always looking for new members to join the organization to help continue this great community asset for generations to come. we meet about 6 times a year in the Marcellus Library Community room to discuss and vote on camp business. Members receive access to the camp, as well as a sense of ownership giving back to the community. Some of the projects slated for the camp include:
- Pavillion
- Stone fire place at end on pavilion
- Warming Hut
- Cabin
- Well
- Adirondack-style State Park entrance sign with sign in kiosk
- Formal campsites designated for Hipcamp use
- Campsite to accommodate a pop-up style camper (larger campers would not be able to get up the hill)
